TraxStocks

TraxStocks will be released in the summer of 2009. This app uses interactive data visualization to display stock and financial index performance over time. See the TraxStocks page for screenshots and a more detailed description. It was nominated for an Apple Design Award. We wanted to do powerful interactive graphing on the iphone that is unlike any other iphone graphs we have seen. This graphing technology will also be used in other future apps.

TraxStocks is currently in a beta version for the upcoming 3.0 iphone OS. It relies on some new 3.0 features so we can't release it until the new OS becomes available. We are still accepting beta testers (email amatzkin@allofzero.com if you are interested). You can also see a posting about this on the Tufte website about the iphone interface. Introducing Aurora

I want to introduce Aurora. She is my business partner at All of Zero.

She is largely responsible for the specific design decisions for our upcoming iphone graphing applications. She is a PhD student at Dartmouth and my sister. You can read more about her (and me) in the About tab.

She will be handling many of the things that don't require my technical expertise, freeing me to focus on making excellent applications. Don't worry, I will still be trolling the support groups and responding to e-mails!

We also have a pair of interns to help out over the summer. You may not hear much directly from them, but I want to acknowledge their hard work. They make it possible for us to maintain our focus on the bigger picture.

What happened to iScale?

First, let me assure you that iScale is not dead. Due to a trademark conflict we had to change it's name. The new name will be revealed when it is ready for full beta.

To make iScale the app we wanted it to be required far more technological innovation then we anticipated. We had to make some hard choices about what we wanted to do with the software. We had to break it down into smaller chunks that we could tackle one piece at a time. Some of our goals are:

Rebuild the user interface to be far more intuitive and responsive.
Provide extensive graphical output for nutritional progress monitoring.
Allow for many new kinds of data input.
Pave the way for new features in the long term.

iScale is not the only app we have under development that can make use of these technologies. However, it is the only one that uses nearly all of our core technologies in a single application.

We now have our core graphing technology built (examples are forthcoming). We also have a new journal interface ready. Both of these technologies are being deployed in other apps before they will be used in a new nutrition app. We feel it is appropriate to have these technologies extremely mature from production use before we apply them to tracking health data. Health information is simply too important to make these kinds of major changes without major testing.

In the coming weeks and months we will show you what we have been and will be working on. Stay tuned to this blog!
